Phil Griego is a native Santa Fean whose strong roots in the community are based on both the celebrated neighborhood family grocery store that served the downtown area of the city for decades and on the family tradition of community involvement and community service.

Phil graduated from St. Michaels High School and attended the College of Santa Fe before earning his law degree from Antioch School of Law in Washington D.C. While in Washington he worked for New Mexico Senator Pete Domenici.

Phil founded Lawyers Title Company of Santa Fe in 1982 (later renamed American Surety Title) and it quickly made its mark in the real estate community as the "service-oriented" title insurance firm. Phil worked as owner/general manger of the firm until he sold it in 2007 to work independently in the development consulting field and to pursue unique real estate projects. He obtained his broker's license and has joined The Santa Fe Agency.

Phil's community service has mirrored his business development and commitment.

Phil was elected and re-elected to the Santa Fe City Council and served 11 years. He was Mayor Pro Tem of Santa Fe for eight years and served on numerous boards, commissions, community associations and business organizations. His volunteer community service included membership on the City of Santa Fe Planning Commission and the Santa Fe County Extraterritorial Zoning Authority. Governor Bill Richardson appointed Phil to the New Mexico Museum Board of Regents.

Phil ran for the NM State Senate and was elected. He was re-elected to his third term in 2004; representing Santa Fe, Los Alamos, Sandoval, San Miguel, Taos, and Mora Counties in Senate District 39. His constant meetings with Santa Fe county groups and organizations continue to be a major part of his legislative work that has helped bring literally millions of dollars in project and building funds to Santa Fe.

Phil and his wife Jane maintain their Santa Fe home along with the historic family property and ranch land in the Village of San Jose east of the City Different.

He is a member of the Elks Club, Masonic Lodge (32nd Degree) and Scottish Rite. His professional involvements have included membership in the New Mexico Land Title Association, Associate member of the Board of Realtors, and Santa Fe Chamber of Commerce.
